I visited one of America's richest zip codes, a neighborhood known for its country clubs and sprawling mansions, where the average income is $857,300. Here's what it looks like.

• Purchase, the 10577 zip code, is a hamlet within the town of Harrison. The average adjusted gross income in Purchase is $857,300.
• That's more than twice the average income of Scarsdale, New York, the richest town on the East Coast.
• I spent an afternoon walking around downtown Harrison and residential Purchase, and although Purchase was full of huge, beautiful houses, the only thing to do there seemed to be hanging out at a country club.

Westchester County in New York is known for being home to some of the wealthiest communities in the US. 

Harrison, a Westchester town of 28,000 peopleabout 28 miles northeast of New York City, is home to the sixth-richest zip code in the US, according to Bloomberg.

The wealthy community of Purchase — zip code 10577 — is a hamlet within the town of Harrison that ranks as the richest East Coast zip code outside of New York City.

The average adjusted gross income in Purchase is $857,300, more than twice as much as Scarsdale's average income of about $420,000, according to Bloomberg. But as Purchase is a neighborhood within a town and not a town itself, it didn't make Bloomberg's list of America's richest towns.

I spent an afternoon walking around Harrison and Purchase. While the homes were beautiful in Purchase, there was nothing to do there, and I found the town center of Harrison to be lacking in character when compared to neighboring Scarsdale.

I took a trip up to Harrison to see what the town was like and to spend some time in its super-wealthy zip code, Purchase.

I arrived got to Harrison via an Uber from neighboring Scarsdale, but the train station is about 35 minutes from New York City on the Metro North.
